ˇˇˇˇIn the early years of 1975, the General Office in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China wanted to make a batch of high quality tableware which can both preserve heat and prevent dust. The Hunan Province was first required to produce because Mao Tse-tung is from Hunan. But their design drawing was not satisfactory. Mao Tse-tung thought that the porcelain made in Jingdezhen was better. Therefore, Jianxi provincial Party committee was assigned a special mission that let Jingdezhen make a batch of living porcelain specially for Mao Tse-tung. The code name of the mission was called "7501" because Jiangxi Province took it as the first task under the political environment at that time. Moreover, it was produced by Light Industry Department Ceramic Industry Scientific Research Institute located in Jingdezhen. The research institute received instructions in February, 1975 and 22 kilns were fired altogether to the end of August, 1975. The actual finished products were more than 4,200 pieces. The elegant works chosen among them were sent to the location of the Central Committee Party of China (Zhongnanhai) in Septemper, 1975.
ˇˇˇˇThe batch of porcelain includes five kinds of flower designs : underglaze red plum (two kinds of flower designs)ˇ˘overglaze water dot red plumˇ˘overglaze water dot peach blossomˇ˘underglaze lotus and bamboo-leaf drawing each other and so on. It amounts to more than 1000 pieces. The way of forming a complete set is very special. A set of underglaze red plum porcelain for special use includes five combinations. There are 92 pieces of ceramics which 47 pieces of tablewares, 13 pieces of tableware accessories, 13 pieces of tea sets and 6 pieces of ornamental wares are included in. The style is not only simple, graceful, dignified and steady but also the lines are very elegant and smooth. For instance, the bowls take on the appearance of Zhengde Wares while the plates take on the appearance of Hehe Wares. In addition to, all the bowls and plates have their corresponding lids. As a result, Mao Tse-tung had always been using these before he passed away because of his satisfaction with the design and shape of these ceramics.
ˇˇˇˇThe success in firing of "7501"ceramics is the product of Jingdezhen's porcelain process in the seventies of the 20th century. In terms of the white glaze, from the sweet white in the years of Yong Le to the bluish white in the years of Cheng Hua, "7501" ceramics select more fined materials to produce the white glaze with high purity. As for the decorated glaze, the underglaze decoration appeared during the period of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but the kind is very limited, only confined to the blue-and-white and underglaze red. As "7501" ceramics carry forward the tradition of firing the underglaze decoration, the underglaze "wucai" is created. Moreover, these ceramics, for the first time, are fired in the temperature of 1400 degree that the successive dynasties' royal wares can't reach before. In this condition, the underglaze "wucai" takes on an appearance of spotless and shiningness. This bath of ceramics used only by Mao Tse-tung have reached a new level in terms of art and technology in the history of Jingdezhen's ceramics.
